El Maiten House

El Maiten House

The site chosen for this house is located in the highest part of a set of hills that look out over the sea of Punta de Lobos. The Landscape is dominated by vast green meadows with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop.

The house is located on a 34×31 site, exposed to the south winds and with a steep slope, in a condominium with a height restriction of only 1 floor above the natural ground. The challenge resulted in building a 174m2 house on a single floor that would guarantee panoramic views to the south and at the same time protect its inhabitants from the prevailing winds of the area.

The solution found was to develop a house with a compact and staggered plant, topped by a large upper plane as a roof, which accompanies the natural slope of the land to minimize the visual impact on the environment. The house is actually two independent houses linked by a strip of circulation and services, allowing the owners to have more flexibility of use. Finally, the house has a circulation on the south façade, where the walls are prevented from reaching the glass on the façade, turning this sector into a true internal gallery that allows the space to be transformed into an authentic viewpoint that amplifies the perception of the landscape from inside.
